Muscle cars often seem like a dying breed these days. Gone are the days when they rolled down the streets and highways of America as signifiers of coolness and toughness. But there is still one solid, powerful muscle car out there: the new Dodge Charger. The new Charger has plenty of power along with excellent performance and many amazing features. All these elements come together to create a vehicle that is rugged, cool, and so much more.

Let’s look at the details of what the new Dodge Charger offers and how it shows that it’s still one of the most powerful muscle cars.

What the Next-Gen Dodge Charger Offers

Two Model Types

Starting this year, the Dodge Charger is available in two different models: the electrified Charger Daytona and the gas-powered Charger SIXPACK. The Charger Daytona trim levels include the Scat Pack and R/T trims. Meanwhile, the Charger SIXPACK comes in two forms: Standard Output and High Output. Why do these models, trims, and forms matter? Well, for starters, the model, trim, and/or form of Charger you choose affects its power and performance.

Note: The Daytona is already available, while the SIXPACK will be released later this year. The specs we mention below are for the Daytona because those are the specs that Dodge has made available at the time of this writing.

Power & Performance

Here’s the kind of power that the Charger generates across the two different Daytona trims:

  • Charger Daytona Scat Pack: 670 horsepower, 627 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Charger Daytona R/T: 496 horsepower, 404 lb.-ft. of torque

Along with all this power, the Charger Daytona has a bunch of amazing performance features, including:

  • Brembo High Performance Brakes, which have a 31% increase in swept area over typical SRT brakes to improve the Daytona’s racing track performance
  • A staggered tire setup, which gives the Charger Daytona great street course racing capabilities
  • A strong body structure that includes a rigid chassis and a 50/50 weight balance
  • Enhanced suspension, which provides amplified performance
  • Racing options, including:
  • Launch Control, which sets the wheels’ torque with five Launch Intensity settings
  • Race Prep, which manages the Charger’s battery with two racing modes: Drag Racing and Track Racing
  • Drift/Donut Mode, which allows the Charger to drift and spin intentionally with three retractable slip angles, a rear axle-biased torque, and tailored damper settings

With a muscle car, performance features matter because they allow you to maneuver in ways that more normal, everyday vehicles cannot. All of these performance features deliver that for Dodge Charger drivers.

Design Features

The Charger’s exterior design features contribute to its rugged appearance and intense driving experience, while the interior features create a comfortable and stylish cabin. The exterior features include:

  • The world’s first ever Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, a patent-pending exhaust system that allows drivers and passengers to feel and hear a tangible and audible rumble as they drive or ride
  • A redesigned rear with a hidden hatch trunk design that makes it easier to transport larger cargo while not interrupting the Charger’s sleek exterior design
  • Signature lighting design that gives the Charger an edgy and slightly sinister vibe when the lights are on
  • Standard 18-inch and available 20-inch tires that contribute to the Charger’s sleek but rugged look and contribute to its sizable power

Meanwhile, the Charger’s interior features include:

  • A driver-focused cockpit with elements such as a center-console with a simple “On” button alongside a pistol-grip shifter
  • A heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel with features like buttons for different driving modes, along with the PowerShot feature, which adds up to 40 extra horsepower to your Charger’s performance
  • Heated and ventilated performance-inspired seats available in a Black or Demonic Red suede/Nappa leather surface combination
  • Best-in-class 38.5 cubic feet of cargo space

Technology Features

Found within the Charger’s interior are its excellent technological features that contribute to smooth driving and convenience within the cabin. These features include:

  • A driver-oriented 12.3-inch Freestanding Touchscreen Display that provides quick access to vital vehicle information and entertainment features
  • Three standard driving modes (Sport Mode, Wet/Snow Mode, and Custom Mode) and two available driving modes (Track Mode and Drag Mode)
  • Performance Pages, which gauge statistics such as propulsion and g-force
  • EV Pages, which monitor the electrified Charger’s power flow, among other things
  • Cellphone features such as dual smartphone support, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • A full suite of safety features, including Side Distance Warning, Front-Tire-to-Curb Camera, and ParkSense with Camera
